Rec Cen Memberships

The Department of Recreation offers 1-month3-month or Annual memberships. All membership terms begin on the date of purchase. Only two 1 month memberships may be purchased in any calendar year.

All Memberships can be purchased in person at the Recreation Center's Customer Service Center. Please check hours and location

Community (Annual, 3-month) and Faculty/Staff (Annual, 3-month) memberships can be renewed online by visiting our Registration Portal. Details on how to renew these memberships can be downloaded here: How To Renew a Membership Online. *Please take note that in order to renew memberships online, you must do so before the expiration date*

All users must sign a Waiver of Liability release form before entering the Recreation Complex. Children must have this form signed by a parent/legal guardian.

Note: Definition/Qualifications for Sponsored Memberships: To purchase you must be the spouse of faculty/staff, a Recreation Center Member or the Domestic Partner of a faculty/staff Recreation Center Member. Must show proof of California Domestic Partner Registration.

Note: Parent or legal guardian must be present to enroll children and teens for Day Pass and sign waiver of liability. Adults 18 years of age and older may purchase a Recreation Center Day Pass. The Day Pass fee will not be deducted from future membership purchase. Day Passes will expire at closing of date activated, it is not valid for a 24 hour period.

Determining Membership Eligibility Group

UCSB student enrolled in at least 12 units and their student fees are up to date. Students not enrolled in at least 12 unites (full-time) must purchase a "Non-Registered Student" membership in order to have access to the recreation complex.

Note: Must have UCSB Perm Number to qualify. Only available in quarter immediately after graduation or if student is not registered for current quarter but can show proof of registration from previous quarter.

Faculty & Staff
UCSB faculty or staff with at least a 50% campus appointment.

Any retired UC Campus or Office of the President (UCOP) faculty/staff member. Must show proof of retired status upon initial sign up by providing "UC Retiree ID Card".

Anyone who purchased an Alumni Association Membership prior to Nov 1, 2017 and has an active recreation membership.

Anyone not directly affiliated (Student, Faculty/Staff, Alumni, Retiree, etc) with the university.

UC Reciprocity
During the academic year, visiting students, faculty and staff with valid UC IDs will be admitted at no charge to rec sports facilities system-wide. At specialty facilities, i.e. aquatic centers, equestrian centers, etc., the visiting students may participate by paying the standard campus student rate.

UC Reciprocity is meant for those students, faculty and staff that are traveling or visiting other UC schools on an occasional basis. Access for extended periods may require the purchase of an applicable membership. UC Reciprocity does not extend to the Hastings School of Law and excludes participation in IM Sports and Sport Clubs.

Summer Memberships

The Department of Recreation offers Summer memberships that typically run from the middle of June through mid September, at which time children are allowed to use many of the recreation facilities. Summer Family Memberships are sold in the beginning of June at the Recreation Center's Customer Service Center.

Membership Policies and Information

Refund Policy

Membership refunds are reviewed and granted only at the discretion of the administrative supervisor. Refund request forms can be picked-up and submitted in person at the Customer Service Center (CSC) or the form can be found online and emailed to Submitting a refund form DOES NOT GUARANTEE A REFUND. All refunds are subject to the following policies:

  • Notification of refund status will be sent via email once processed.
  • Membership Refunds can NOT be transferred across programs/services.
  • Refunds for short-term memberships (1-month and 3-month) are NOT available; excluding unprecedented circumstances. 
  • Refunds for annual memberships will only be considered by the administrative supervisor for following reasons within the first 5-months and will be subject to a one month cancellation and $10 administration fee: 
    • Changes in medical condition resulting in physical limitations
      • Medical conditions require doctors note to be submitted at time of refund request form submission.
    • Relocation
  • Refunds, if given, take four to six weeks to process through university accounting.
  • If granted, the refund will be sent to the address provided on the submitted refund request form.
Cancellation Policy
  • All cancellations must be made in writing (faxes and e-mails will be accepted).
  • Patrons on the annual Payroll Deduction membership will be subject to a $50 cancellation fee and it will be deducted from your paycheck for early cancellation. 
    • PD memberships can take one billing cycle for the request to be processed by campus payroll. 

Prices are subject to change at the discretion of the Governance Board.
Memberships are non-transferable.
