The UCSB Department of Recreation is one of the largest employers on campus with over 600+ student positions. Most programs like Intramural Sports, Sports Clubs and Special Events, are heavily student-run. Students work in a fast-paced, professional environment, and directly with career staff mentors. Through working at the Department, they build positive relationships, gain first hand experience in developing management, organization and leadership skills. UCSB Adventure Programs employs well over 100 Gauchos in our various programs. Our staff get to facilitate groups on our Ropes Course, perform as a "vertical lifeguard" in the Adventure Climbing Center, and get outside as a guide after completing the Leadership Training Course (LTC)

Customer Service Center Staff

Customer Service Center (CSC) staff help students and the community enroll in recreation programs and classes. Customer Service Assistants help register participants, monitor doors for classes, and assist with payments. Additionally, the CSC offers Passport Services so students employed are responsible for setting appointments and aiding in the execution by prepping documents for those who come in.

Rec Services Practitioners + Fitness Instructors: The Recreation Department's Fitness + Wellness programs offer research and evidence based health, performance, wellness, and fitness programs lead by nationally accredited, certified fitness instructors, personal trainers, massage therapists and nutritionists. Our team of professionals help students, faculty, staff, and community members to reach their health and performance potential by providing outstanding education and coaching in the field of applied exercise science. Applications for personal trainer, massage therapist, nutrition educators and Fitness instructors are accepted on an ongoing bases. Fitness Assistants:  Fitness Assistants provide supervision and information to patrons utilizing the exercise rooms, strength and free weight areas, and cardiovascular areas. They ensure the safety and cleanliness of these areas and create a friendly, inviting and inclusive space for partakers to relieve stress and work on personal fitness goals. ***Applications are currently closed for Fitness Assistant positions.Applications will open in March.

Intramural Sports Staff

Staff are responsible in overseeing the expansive program of Intramural Sports by enforcing fair play and competition. They set up and take down equipment before and after games and supervise for safety during. Furthermore, they manage the facilities to make sure everything is well kept and offer first aid care for any medical emergencies. Intramural staff also coordinates game times and leagues during the quarter.

Marketing Staff

The Marketing Team aims to raise awareness of the programs, events, facilities and services offered through the Department of Recreation. They increase program participation and foster brand loyalty using print and digital media. Student positions include Marketing Assistant, Graphic Designer, Photographer, Videographer and more.

Recreation Operations Staff

The operation's team are the students most frequently seen around the recreation facility. They are here to provide quality customer service and assist patrons at all times with any and all general facility inquiries. We are looking for employees who are excited about promoting wellness and fitness for all of our members. Operations staff are responsible for managing access and activity spaces, facility upkeep, opening and closing the facility, and enforcing policy. Furthermore, they are the first responders to the majority of all medical accidents or incidents that may take place within our facility. This job requires the ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.

Special Events Staff

Students employed by Special Events oversee and run operations hosted on campus athletic fields and facilities by Sport Clubs, student and campus organizations, and non-campus affiliated organizations. Those who work with Special Events are required to be available on the weekends as most events typically take place then. They are responsible for the programs by supervising safety, set up and tear down before and after events, managing facilities and providing first aid care for medical emergencies when the situation presents itself.

Summer Camp Staff

Summer Camp Counselors are responsible for the general safety, development, growth, and fun of the campers in their group. Counselors spend their days leading activities such as swimming, ropes course, sports and more. We look for counselors who have a lot of energy, enthusiasm, and love working with children!

We will hire Camp Counselors for our Summer Day Camp in early 2020! Spend you summer playing and leading activities such as swimming, ropes course, sports, campus explorations and more. Camp runs mid-June - mid-August.

Summer Camp Student Managers are responsible for assisting the Summer Camp Coordinator with daily administrative and leadership duties and responsibilities. This position performs duties associated with the registration, preparation, and operations of UCSB Summer Day Camp with some tasks associated with assisting the operation of UCSB Surf & Kayak Camp and UCSB Junior Lifeguards.
