For those needing to brush up on swim skills, consider joining UCSB Recreation’s Swim Tune-Up program. The course runs on Sundays from April 13 – May 4 from 3:45 – 4:30 at the UCSB Rec Cen. Register Here beginning March 10th.

2014 New Participant Tryout Dates:
- April 5th 2:00pm-3:30pm
- April 27th 12:00pm-1:30pm
- May 17th 2:00pm-3:30pm
- June 8th 2:00pm-3:30pm
Tryout consists of:
- Treading Water for 3 minutes
- Swimming underwater for 10 yards
- Swimming 100 yards under time limit (Ages 12 and up=2:20, Ages 11 and under=2:30)
Simply show up at the UCSB Recreation Center on tryout dates to participate in tryouts.
Tryouts will be administered on a first-come first-served basis.
April 27th from 9:00am.
This requires all applicants to be at the pool no later than 2:30pm.
Assistant positions are open to past UCSB Jr Lifeguard participants only.
Program Main Location
Campus Point, Goleta Beach & UCSB facilities
8:30am to 12:30pm, Monday to Friday
Some sessions will occur at the UCSB Rec Cen or competition sites. See calendar for specifics.

Tryout: swim under water 10 yards, tread water 3 minutes; swim 100 yards in 2 minutes 20 seconds. Returning JGs may waive the tryout. Rookie Week (free) is available for new JGs.

SAFETY IS OUR HIGHEST PRIORITY!! Instructors receive Red Cross lifeguard training. Some are EMT certified and possess California Teaching Credentials.
Student-Instructor ratio is 20:1.
Curriculum: CPR, AED training, First Aid, Smooth and Open Water Lifesaving, and Marine Resource Stewardship. Please see curriculum at Downloads link for more.
Fun: surfing, body boarding, water polo, kayaking, volleyball, swimming, beach games, and special events.
Jr Lifeguard participants may join the UCSB Summer Day Camp in the afternoon at a reduced rate of $60 per week. Please use the UCSB Jr Lifeguards mail in form to register for these sessions. There is no online registration option for this discounted rate.
Participation in the UCSB Surf & Kayak Camp is also an option but there is no discounted rate and registration is separate from Jr Guards.
Session: If you cancel prior to the beginning of the Session you will receive a full tuition refund less a $50
administration fee. Refunds will not be granted after the Session has begun.
Uniform sales are final.
Boat & Raging Waters Trip fees involve prepaid reservations and are therefore not refundable.
